Supplemental Township License Tax

The Sullivan trustee board is seeking the input of its residents. Our township

needs some new road maintenance equipment. The new equipment would

increase the safety and efficiency of our road maintenance department. The

trustees are granted the authority, by ORC Code 4504.18, to levy a tax of $5.00

per vehicle per year to be used for road related expenses. In 1998 the township

initiated the first of two allowable supplemental license taxes. Due to the

continuing need to update equipment, it was suggested the board of trustees

consider adding the 2nd township license tax.

Please reach out to your township trustees or attend the next trustee board

meeting on May 5th, at 6:30 pm, in the township meeting room. This matter will

be dropped or pursued based on feedback from the residents of Sullivan Twp.

Trustee contact information can be found on this website.

Below are excerpts from ORC code 4504.18

For the purpose of paying the costs and expenses of enforcing and administering the tax provided for in this section; for the construction, reconstruction, improvement, maintenance, and repair of township roads, bridges, and culverts; for purchasing, erecting, and maintaining traffic signs, markers, lights, and signals; for purchasing road machinery and equipment, and planning, constructing, and maintaining

suitable buildings to house such equipment…

The tax shall be at the rate of five dollars per motor vehicle on all motor vehicles the owners of which reside in the unincorporated area of the township…

Thank you for your thoughtful and respectful feedback

Sullivan Township Board of Trustees Chairman,

Neal
